How did the Brooklyn Dodgers get their name?

Next Question >

Brooklyn's National League baseball team was born in 1883 as a franchise in the Interstate League, and became known as the Trolley Dodgers, later shortened to Dodgers. The name described how Brooklyn residents would attempt to cross the street, compounded by the complexity of its trolley tracks. Some other names for the Dodgers include the Superba's, the Atlantics and the Robins (after their then-owner Wilbert Robinson).

The beloved Bums came close, but didn't win a World Series until 1955, when they finally brought the championship home to Brooklyn. Just two years later, they moved to Los Angeles. They have never been forgiven for abandoning their loyal fans.
